Today’s post comes from twelve-year-old guest reviewer, Catherine. Cat began her love of reading with the Harry Potter series in third grade. Some recent titles she’s enjoyed are The Fault in Our Stars, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and the occasional Calvin and Hobbes comic. In addition to being an avid reader, she also loves getting together with her friends and is a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
I had read the little description of this new series in our book fair catalog and just from that it sounded good. I love how instead of a summary about the book, All the Wrong Questions back cover has questions about things that are likely to happen in the book.
The cover is also something that made me interested. It is a bunch of pictures that are clues that play a big part in the story. I love to read through the book and find out how each different picture comes into play.
The story is set in a town called Stain’d-by-the-sea, and young Lemony Snicket is a detective sent there as the apprentice of another detective, S. Theodora Markson. They are on the case of the supposedly stolen statue of the Bombinating Beast, which is a mythical (maybe) creature that used to live in the sea of Stain’d-by-the-sea. With the help of Stain’d-by-the-sea’s last journalist, Moxie Mahallen, and a young coffee lover named Ellington Feint, they start to uncover little bits of this villain’s very big plan.
I love in this series how the story just keeps going. The mystery keeps getting bigger and bigger as we meet new characters and we see new parts of Stain’d-by-the-sea. The first three books are a thrill to read with all of the unexpected twists and turns, and I can’t wait for the next one to be out.
P.S. It also has a really cool website.
